What We Do

We are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support the local Veterans Bridge Home
  • Write and create cards to send to active-duty service personnel
  • Support Wreaths Across America and participate in the wreath-laying ceremony
  • Support other charitable organizations
  • Observe Veterans Day and participate in the Veterans Day parade
  • Participate in naturalization and U.S. flag retirement ceremonies
  • Participate in local commemorative events, including the anniversaries of the Battle of Kings Mountain, the Battle of Cowan’s Ford, and the Battle of Cowpens
  • Make lap quilts for veterans
  • Promote Constitution Week which is celebrated annually from September 17–23
In support of Operation Resiliency, Junior members filled boxes that were sent to women service members in a newly deployed brigade in Southeast Asia.

Our chapter awarded a Blue Star mother, Fostoria Pierson, with the DAR Medal of Honor, a prestigious award given for outstanding contributions to the nation.

Mecklenburg Chapter, NSDAR, was honored to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Historic Preservation

  • Mark graves of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
  • Support the National Society for the preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events
  • Support restoring gravesites, buildings, and markers
  • Support the project of moving the Siloam School building, a Rosenwald School, to the Charlotte Museum of History
  • Clean the house at the Hezekiah Alexander Rock House, Charlotte Museum of History
  • Apply for grants to help maintain local historic properties

We proudly presented a monetary donation to the Charlotte Museum of History.

Three local DAR chapters cleaned and restored Redding Springs, African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church Cemetery.

The Junior members clean artifacts at the 1774 Hezekiah Alexander Rock House located on the grounds of the Charlotte Museum of History.

Education

  • Present Constitution Week programs in elementary schools
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the U. S. Constitution
  • Sponsor American History Essay Contests for students in grades five through eight
  • Sponsor Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Awards for high school cadets
  • Sponsor the DAR Good Citizens Award for high school seniors
  • Support Crossnore Communities for Children
  • Participate in the American History Book Club
  • Collect plastic items for special recycled projects
  • Promote workshops on genealogy, DAR 101, and African American genealogy
  • Produced a professional video for schools for Constitution Week

Chapter members toured Crossnore Communities for Children and donated bedding for the children.

Mecklenburg Chapter, NSDAR, produced and shared a Constitution Week video with schools across the country.

We are honored to host our chapter’s DAR Good Citizen Award winner each spring.
